I was excited to hear that this year’s topic is time, as the core object of my research is a stochastic process, which by definition unfolds in time. I like to see both my research experience and life in general as stochastic processes with their ups and downs. In this artwork, I wanted to capture the beautiful duality between symmetry and randomness. And finally, no matter which path we take, we all arrive at the same place—over the cliff.

One significant connection between Serbia and mathematics is the work of Milutin Milanković, a Serbian mathematician, astronomer, and geophysicist. His mathematical models of Earth’s orbital cycles laid the foundation for the modern understanding of long-term climate change, now known as Milankovitch cycles. His work directly contributed to the scientific knowledge of ice ages and is still used today in climate science.
