audio commentary

This work traces many forms of changes: the self changing over time; the self understanding itself through the world; and the world being understood through an evolving self. Humans create science and artificial systems, which reshape human thinking and act back on the world. These changes happen mutually, from inner life to outer world, from micro to macro. The two yin-yang fish refer to yin-yang xiangsheng (阴阳相生): opposing forces arise through each other; each fish carries the trace of the other, moving toward dynamic harmony and coexistence – a possible vision for Human-AI interaction.

The change in selfhood, identity; doubt, confusion, inner chaos; reflections on being; and relationship between science and the world

mathematics in Chinese culture

The work draws on the Chinese Taoist idea of Yin and Yang as a model of relation. Apparent opposites are relational energies that generate, constrain, and transform each other through continual interaction. It describes co-dependence, tension, transformation, and balance. This offers a cultural lens for Human–AI Interaction. Humans and artificial systems can be seen as co-evolving agents. What I keep returning to is the relation we are forming with the systems we have brought into the world, and whether this relation can hold balance, responsibility, and coexistence.
