the Mathemenschen exhibition ("People of Mathsematics"), at Humboldt Universty in Berlin

Introduction

Hello everybody, I set up this page to communicate with you the relevant information of the exhibition I am working on that has you all as protagonists and to collect all the information I need from you. I hope that this way with one central page with all the information, it is easier for all to find whatever they need (instead of searching in long emails).

First information about the exhibition.
- The current work title is Mathemenschen, "People of Mathematics". It might change. The goal of the exhibition is to provide young students with different stories of mathematicians and scientists, from different cultures and with different goals and experiences.
- The exhibition will take place in January 2026.
- The exhibition will take place in the
von Neumann building of the Humboldt University in Berlin.
- There are options to repeat this exhibition in two instances (which are not confirmed yet): In a collaboration with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Berlin, and during the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften in Berlin

There is some information that I need from all of you. This consists of 3 things:

- A high resolution profile picture of yours. Please choose a picture where you are alone, and where you are facing the camera. Please send this picture to demian.nahuel.goos [at] hu-berlin.de.

- A short audio file where you simply say your name. This is for me, so that I don't make any mistakes when I spell your name. Again, please send this picture to demian.nahuel.goos [at] hu-berlin.de.

- Complete the following Google Forms:

Here you find 2 questions that most artists (those from 2024 and 2025) have already answered. So if you belong to those years, get outta here!
If not though, please check this link and complete it!

This exhibition will have little profiles that will be added to the exhibition. The profiles will contain a series of audio files provided by the artists. The goal is to get to know you better, together with your motivations, ambitions, feelings, etc. Here, we also get to know the science behind your artwork a bit better.

Important: If there is a question you do not feel comfortable with, or you think there is nothing interesting to share about it, just skip it. Don't worry about it. "Feel comfortable to say what makes you feel comfortable and what not."
The questions are:
- Question 1: What is the first mathematics you remember doing yourself? (Here something from everyday-life would be nice, nothing academic. Maybe something from your childhood.)

- Question 2: What drove you into doing mathematcis? (This can be a very banal answer. I do not expect inspiring stories that are worthy of a movie! Just genuine and simple answers.) 🙂

- Question 3: Why do you do mathematics? What is your motivation? (Again, the main thing is to be authentic and genuine. Sometimes it is an interesting story, but "I just like doing maths." is as valid as everything else. Also "I want to prove myself." or whatever you like. Just think about the question and the answer is fine.)

- Question 4: In what moments do you struggle in science? And how do you deal with it? (This can go in whatever direction you like. It can be simple, everyday struggles or existencial crises. Feel free to share what you worry about.)

- Question 5: What do you enjoy in the everyday life of a mathematician? (Again, simple things are valid.)

- Question 6: What mathematics can be seen in your artwork? (Here please go into specifics, not the broader science that you depicted. For instance, if we can see a flower with a certain amount of petals and that number means something related to your science, tell us what it means!) (If you need 1min for this question, it is ok. But not more! :D)

Please record audio files answering these questions. Please record one audio file for each question and name the file as follows: "name.questionx". (For instance: "demiangoos.question3".)

Each file should be about 30-45sec long. Please send the audio files to demian.nahuel.goos [at] hu-berlin.de.
